IDMC-7 - 7th International Myotonic Dystrophy Consortium Meeting September 9 - 12, 2009
The International Myotonic Dystrophy Consotium (IDMC) is holding it's 7th annual conference (IDMC-7) on myotonic dystrophy, September 9 - 12, 2009, in Würzburg, Germany.
100 Years after the first description of myotonic dystrophy by Hans Steinert (Leipzig, Germany), IDMC-7 congress chairmen, are delighted to invite you to the city of Würzburg. Würzburg is deeply linked to one of the original describers of DM2, Kenneth Ricker. In memory of both scientists, they are pleased to invite you to join this anniversary congress in September, 2009.
This conference will cover a broad range of topics, including historic perspectives on both DM1 and DM2, mechanisms of disease pathogenesis and instability of the underlying DNA mutations, and advances in treatement of these multisystem disorders. The hope is that this meeting will provide a collegial setting and atmosphere for a stimulating exchange and discussion of new findings and the current state of the field between researers, physicians and other care providers (neurologists, internists, pediatricians, physical therapists, geneticists, ophthalmologists, anesthesiologists, gynecologists, etc.) and patients.
The IDMC-7 Congress Chairmen are Ralf Krahe, Houston, USA, Tiemo Grimm, Würzburg, Germany, Benedikt Schoser, Munich, Germany.

History
The IDMC is a group of scientists and clinicians with a shared interest in understanding all aspects of Myotonic Dystrophy type 1 (DM1) and type 2 (DM2) with the long term aim of providing improved treatment for affected patients. In order to discuss all the latest developments in the field, the IDMC organizes biannual conferences.
The first conference was held in 1997 (IDMC-1) in Paris, France. The most recent meeting, IDMC-6, was held at the main campus of University of Milan September, 12-15, 2007 in Milan, Italy.
The next conference is scheduled for 2009 in Germany, the home of Dr. Hans Steinert, the person who first identified myotonic dystrophy as a disease. This is the 100th anniversary of the discovery of the disease in 1909.
